ANNOUNCEMENTS, April 14, 2002

GREETING US this morning are Freeman and Arlene Christner.  Today is their wedding anniversary.  Each had been married before to spouses who died of cancer.  Twelve years ago today, they were married at Eighth Street.  Shortly after that, Freeman joined 8th Street, transferring from Silverwood Mennonite Church.  Arlene began attending at the age of 3 when her parents moved from Topeka to Goshen.  For a number of years the Christners wintered in Florida and could attend 8th Street only during the summer months.  No matter how many churches they visited, there never was a church quite like 8th Street and it would be thrilling to return to Goshen.  Through the years, they have served on various committees and have participated in the life of the church as active members.  Belonging to the family of 8th Streeters is something they definitely would recommend.

THE FLOWERS are given by Freeman and Arlene for the enjoyment of the congregation and to celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary.

AMBS NEWS:

·        Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary invites people to join a service of prayer and celebration in the field of crocuses on the campus of AMBS (east of the chapel) on Tuesday, April 16 from 11:45am - 12:15pm.  In September, students, faculty and staff planted stakes in the form of an open cross in the campus lawn symbolizing the lives lost in the terrorist attacks.  In early November, they gathered again to remove the stakes and plant crocus bulbs.  Now the seminary invites the community to join in celebrating resurrection hope represented by the blossoming crocuses.  The service will include prayers for peace, expressions of hope, and silent prayers as participants walk through the cross formed by the flowers in the grass.

·        The Peace and Justice Collaborative will present a workshop, Leading a Conflict-Healthy Organization, from May 9-11 at AMBS to help organizational leaders learn about steps they can take to help transform the way their organizations manage conflict.  Registration deadline is tomorrow, April 15.  See announcement on bulletin board for more details.

·        A continuing education workshop, Planning Rituals for Worship, will be held Monday, June 3 at AMBS.  The all-day seminar offers an introduction to planning and leading rituals in Christian worship, opening the way for worshippers to encounter the living God.  There is a reduced fee for one and for three or more persons from one congregation if registered by May 1.  See announcement on bulletin board for more details.
