ANNOUNCEMENTS, April 7, 2002

GREETING US today is the Nussbaum family.  Tim works at Hertzler Systems as a computer programmer.  He also officiates high school and college soccer; last year he was assigned to the Boys' State Final in Indianapolis.  Tim enjoys spending time with his family, going for walks, stamp collecting, working in the garden, and fixing things around the house (built in 1880, so there are lots of things on the "to do" list).  He currently serves on the Fellowship Commission.  Jen works part-time at Goshen College as the Welcome Center Assistant and Ethnic Fair Director (mark your calendars for May 4 this year).  Family life keeps her very busy, but she enjoys scrapbooking, dog training, gardening, going for walks, spending time with friends, and making greeting cards.  Jen serves on the Christian Education Commission and coordinates the Child Care Co-op.  Lily, 4½ years old, attends the Campus Center for Young Children; she will start kindergarten at Goshen College in September.  Lily enjoys drawing, animals, riding her tricycle, and playing with friends.  Right now her parents really enjoy her artistic development.  When she grows up, she would like to be a ballerina, cheerleader, acrobat, artist, and help stores check out.  Rosemary, 2½, also attends the Campus Center for Young Children.  She enjoys having books read to her, doing it "herself," running, and playing with friends (especially Lily).  She has a wonderful sense of humor and enjoys interacting with people; she doesn't like ice cream, spiders or "dangerous holes in the ground."

TWO IMPORTANT PROCESSES

As a congregation we are entering into a time of transition.  There are two important processes happening at the church.  A search for an interim pastor for 6-9 months and a search for long-term leadership are both underway.  These processes are very different.  The search for the interim will be processed on the congregation's behalf by the Executive Committee and the Church Board so that the congregation can use its energy to work with the search committee to find our future long-term leadership.

The role of the interim will be part-time; this person will work with us but not become part of us because this person will leave when their work is done.  One of the main tasks of this person is to help us say good-bye to Myron and to help us process that loss so we can get ready to say hello to the new person who will, along with Brenda, provide our future leadership.

The following is the process for identifying and choosing the interim pastor:

1.  Contact of potential candidates by Lloyd Miller, CDC Conf. Minister

2.  Interview of candidates by Sharon Risser

3.  2nd interview of primary candidate by Executive Committee

4.  Negotiation regarding a contract with final candidate

5.  Recommendation to the Board

6.  Meeting the Board

7.  Affirmation by the Board

8.  Introduction to the Congregation

The Search Committee includes the following people:

Lynette Bachman, Chair

Jason Shenk, Rachel Saner, Rachel Nolt,
Leonard Beechy, Patty Yoder, John Nyce,
Bob Wortinger

The Executive Committee includes:

Sharon Risser, Chair

Cal Zehr, Vice-Chair

Laurie Nafziger, Past-Chair

Brenda Sawatzky Paetkau

Myron Schrag

Please share names and thoughts with these groups and please keep both groups in your prayers as they work on behalf of the congregation.
